- Can you name what you actually want from marriage? Not what you're supposed to want. What you want.
- Have you ever repaired a serious conflict without either walking away or capitulating?
- Do you know how you behave under stress? Not how you'd like to behave.
- Can you manage your own money? Marriage doesn't fix financial habits; it doubles them.
- Can you run a household? Cooking, cleaning, admin — can you do it without being managed?
- Do you have relationships that have lasted through difficulty?
- Can you say no to your own family when you need to?
- Are you marrying to escape something? Loneliness, pressure, a difficult home.
- Do you know your own patterns? The arguments you keep having, in different clothes.
- Can you apologise properly — without adding a justification at the end?
- What would you need to change to be someone worth marrying?
- If nothing improved after the wedding, would this still be a life you could live?
The uncomfortable one
Question eight deserves more weight than it usually gets. Marriage entered as an escape route tends to become the thing you need escaping from. Whatever you're running from generally arrives with you.
